Some products made by Mascal Design
Kidney chamber
This unique setup was designed for a high-quality, innovative programme of kidney studies/organ research, and manufactured in small series of 5–10 units respectively. Thanks in part to the use of the right materials, this specially shaped transparent chamber has proven highly effective in various studies. Through years of collaboration, Albert van Dorssen Industrial Design and Mascal Design have become a tightly-knit development team, where a scientist can confidently place projects of this kind. This special design has delivered remarkable results for a group of enthusiastic researchers.
Vario-dol
In response to a theoretical question from the highly experienced rower Ben Reulink, Mascal Design developed an initial technical prototype within a very short space of time. The final version was produced using a range of manufacturing techniques, including metalworking and plastic injection moulding/3D printing. This vario-oarlock is regarded by former world champions in the rowing world as a genuine innovation. With this vario-oarlock, a single sculler can gain a two-boat-length advantage in a race.
Isotopen container
Transporting radioactive medical isotopes is a specialised field in its own right. This plastic container was fully developed and produced in our own workshop, made from the right plastics, with an inner lining of radiation shielding material. The challenging combination of these different materials, and the resulting exceptional technical execution, has led to a high-quality, certified product. This specific transport container is used worldwide in research aimed at detecting tumours. Small-scale production of this packaging is one of the key requirements involved. Kleinschalige productie van deze verpakking is hierbij een van de gestelde eisen.

Dispenser
These powder dispensers are made entirely using injection moulding techniques. This particular technique is especially advantageous for higher production volumes, provided plastic is a suitable material choice for the product in question. These refillable, durable dispensers are designed for newly developed powders using natural flavourings and sweeteners instead of sugar. The University of Dublin developed this new variant of powders "using an old recipe." All plastics and metal parts used in these dispensers are fully food-safe. Together with Roel van den Broek (BBB Design), Mascal Design provided technical support throughout the entire route from design and prototyping to mould construction, and took full in-house responsibility for production.

Drumming
Instrument makers are often asked whether they mainly make musical instruments. This is usually followed by an explanation that instrument makers are, in fact, involved in technical development projects. Occasionally, however, there is indeed some overlap with music — and this project is certainly one such case. For top drummer Juan van Emmerloot, the team of "Albert van Dorssen Industrial Design and Mascal Design" set out to develop an innovative drumstick. This plastic version of the famous jazz brush produces a wide range of sounds and can even be used for rock tracks. Thanks to the use of various technically durable materials, a drummer can choose their own favourite. In addition, a number of other attachments for drumsticks and mallets were also conceived and produced.
